In fact, this game was released at a very exaggering time: the unpretentious Dungen-scrolls and diablo-clones filled the game market, and against their background the first game of Larian with an idiotic name seemed to be another copy from Dybla, and this was far from the case. More likely, it was possible to find more in common with games such as Ultima, Fallout or The Elder Scrolls, because the player’s attention was more attracted by colorful characters, interesting quests and general game atmosphere, and not a spinal jamming of countless crowds of enemies. Although it is impossible to deny that the latter was enough in the game with income, but local battles were more comfortable than battles from Diablo. True, the balance sheet was clearly not brought here and there is no standing mathematically verified gameplay “on your fingertips”, on the other hand, the authors clearly did not strive for this.
In any case, the game released by Larian Studios in 2002 for the time being did not attract my attention. Of course, some classmates then talked about her then and I even had a chance to run a couple of hours on her, but I did not want to continue my acquaintance with her at all. And in the fall of 2015 I discovered on my old computer established, God knows when, the demo of this game. Needless to say that having felt her literally a couple of evenings, I immediately went to Steam and took myself a full-fledged version of the toy, which provided me with leisure for almost the whole October-November and, damn it, cost each of my ruble.
What is this game? I say the leaning of the diablo, you say at the first glance at the screenshots and this sensation will only intensify in the first hours of the game: a small village, mysterious prking and a giant dungeon, filled with a lies, will only strengthen your suspicions. But do not judge the book on the cover, show a little warmth and the game will be revealed to you from a completely different, unexpected side. After all, at your disposal, a fairly large and open world with dozens of registered characters and dozens of original quests falls at your disposal. At this moment, you can find that the game is more like the Elder Scrolls or Fallout, with the last of which the game is related and a similar trading system. You walk around the open world and get into troubles, gain whole string of quests, walk in small villages and cops, get acquainted with colorful personalities, trade with them, and sometimes kill them. This is the real RPG as it is. You are free to follow the main plot or to solve the problems of everyone around, while you will have a moral choice more than once, and many tasks can be completed using small tricks, logical thinking and knowledge of the game mechanics. In the end, solving the problem in the forehead, by force, will not always be true. But even when it comes to action, the game will not hit the dirt face: the battles themselves are mastered at the instinctive level and seem more convenient than the fights in some kind of dibelle, and this is not surprising. In general, such a sandbox will fall into your hands, which, of course, is very far from the creation of the gazebo, but it is quite able to captivate the inquisitive player for 60-90 hours, and you know this, yes, it is worth.

First of all, the game has a tangible problem with the balance and this is especially felt at the very initial and highest levels, when the game is inclined to turn into a real nightmare or a boring walk. Also, to my surprise in the game, a somewhat strange swing, because the player investing all his skills in military skills becomes by the end of the game simply an indestructible monster to endure everyone with a half -pipe, and a pure magician at the end of the game curses his choice, but at the beginning of the game everything is quite the opposite: the warrior suffers and suffers again, and the magician looks at all the time. Still in the game there is a free swing, rising like in the games The Elder Scrolls allows you to rock all the studies at once, regardless of which class you have taken away at the beginning. And a huge abundance of affordable skills, some of which are completely useless, allow you to “strip the character”, which is completely unpleasant. Even in the minus of the game, you can record the final act of the game, which begins to simply enrage with its monotony and stupid stripping of giant spaces and monotrous dungeons from countless hordes of enemies. Sometimes during the final showdown I already want to break my keyboard or delete the game itself. Well, which of us without sin let the first throw a stone at me.

However, what can definitely agree with the fact that the game looked gorgeous and sounded in 2002 and still very good in these parameters. I do not know what exactly is the matter here: either the isometry drawn manually really gets older than 3D, or I finally go crazy, but the game just looks great. Yes, the design of locations and individual elements can cause questions and complaints, but the general impression of the game makes a very pleasant. Particularly surprised to draw puddles and water with reflections: on manually drawn isometry in 2002 – my respect. And although sounds cannot hit you with something special, but music penetrates your soul and revives the whole world in your imagination. Just the science fiction work of Kirill Pokrovsky gives his atmosphere of each new location, every tavern, every battle, and this embosses in the dungeons – to goosebumps. And it’s still hard for me to believe that such a talented composer left us all.

But neither the schedule, nor the worked out gameplay, nor even the most beautiful and atmospheric music will be able to force RPG to work if the authors could not create and revive the world and captivate you with an interesting and well -twisted story. And this, in general, the authors quite managed Rivelon, and this is what the world is called, where all the events of the game unfold, he was able to heal his life. It seems that the standard is already a central European pseudo-structural world with gnomes, orcs, elves and magic, but there is something in it. Humor, the general ease of narration, constantly emphasized antipaphos of what is happening – all this captivates.
Hundreds of years Rivelon was the exemplary kingdom. But in the year of the wolf from the depths of the times, ancient evil returned. Returned to collect debts from the descendants of the heroes who once imprisoned him in a powerful blade of lies.
Residents of Rivellon do not yet know what threat hung over them. War with orcs, crop failure, plague – they perceive all this as a combination of circumstances. However, there are no accidental coincidences. The young hero has to find out who or what is behind these events … Will he be able to maintain mind and life by learning the truth? How can I complete my story about this beautiful game, perhaps only a couple of personal impressions. Yes, the game is already very age and this is noticeable, but you should not allow modern snobbery to let such wonderful toys pass. And yes, the game is by no means a masterpiece and put her 10 out of 10, I have unlikely to ever become, but it is still worth it to give her a chance. After all, sometimes in your life it is not enough precisely such, it would seem banal and small, not at all mandatory trifles that can distract you for a couple of dozen evenings and attract you to another world. After all, sometimes escapize is just escapism and giants like Skyrim or Fallout he does not need at all. So try to tear off and then the sofa sofa will turn out for you a marvelous.
